I made an appointment for my dog to see Dr. Scavelli, as my Dr. recommended to only consult with a Board Certified physician. He presented well with a kind demeanor and examined my dog. He did NOT do anything but physically examine her and ask me a few questions. He did not perform any unnecessary tests to make a diagnosis. He advised me that this problem can resolve on its own and that he would not rush into any surgery. He was very gentle with my dog. The office was immaculate. The front desk was very kind and compassionate as the nerves got the best of my girl and she pooped! They immediately came to help, cleaned it for me and sanitized. They brought us a wee wee pad and sat us comfortably in a room.
Went here several times. The last time to pick up my cat who had passed away after being fine the day before. Didn't really receive a comforting explanation - just 'he was a very sick kitty'. But, why? After tests up the yin-yang and thousands of dollars and the cat dying anyway - that's what they said to me - 'he was a very sick kitty'. Never received even a phone call in sympathy after going there over 2 months with my animal and seeing numerous vets and, again, paying thousands of dollars to them. I wouldn't say I wouldn't recommend them - but the management wasn't very sympathetic or warm. Should try caring equally about dogs and cats.
I had my pup Rocco for 3 days when he fell severely ill. the vet we brought him to first suggested we put him down, he was only 9 weeks old. He had diarrhea and was vomitting with blood in both. He hadn't eaten in 24 hours. I wanted to get another opinion. From the minute we walked in the staff was very caring and compassionate as if Rocco were their puppy. The doctor immediately started bonding with Rocco during the exam even tho he was puking blood on the table. After a test we were told Rocco had Parvo and was in bad shape. He would need to be admitted and didn't know if he would make it through the night. It would be costly and a down payment was required. I didn't have it so they suggested I call the pet shop for help. I did and the owner refused to help with the financial costs and told me to bring Rocco back and he would give me a new puppy. The doctor got on the phone with the pet shop owner and tried to reason with him but he wouldn't budge. The doctor told me she didn't want me to leave with Rocco because if I did he definitely wouldn't survive. She told me we could work something out with costs. I agreed and she started an IV for Rocco right away. Rocco was there for 5 days. They didn't try any new treatments or run tests without asking me first, explaining everything and telling me the costs associated.....they saved Rocco's life and he is now a very playful, energetic, healthy, loving and very spoiled 1 year old Yorkie! With the hospitals help we were able to recoup the entire cost of Rocco's treatment from the owner of the pet shop and that's when we learned that Rocco's 4 siblings also had Parvo and sadly did not survive. The level of care and compassion the staff at the hospital showed was amazing. It was obvious they really love animals. A million thanks....They saved my fur baby's life and I am forever grateful. ❤️
I would gladly tell anyone with a pet in need to visit Greater Veterinary Services. The way they treated us here even exceeded my expectations. It is a state of the art office, with great bedside manner. There is ample parking as well. Don't think twice.
I was totally impressed with both the staff and Dr Meeking who my vet had referred me to. She as very patient, answered my questions, very up front about various tests and costs, no hidden surprises. Very grateful to know GSIV is close by.
Dr. Brognano and the other vets and staff (including Becky, Gina and Christina) were compassionate and effective helping our cat with Chronic Kidney Disease. Everyone on the team is obviously an animal lover and they go the extra mile to make sure that troubled pets are made as comfortable as possible during treatments that might require some stress on the animal. They explain every step, especially to pet owners who might be experiencing stress. We are very fortunate to have Greater SI Vet on the island, they’re a great team.
